Membership Type:
- Any person(s) wishing to be associated with MASA members and activities but not hold membership status are classified as affiliates.
- Members may be of any citizenship or permanent residency status.
- Members may be residing within or outside of the United States of America.
- Members may be/may not be within the TAMU branch.
Membership Categories
MASA shall have 3 membership categories:
- Malaysian Texas A&M University MASA members: Members of this category include Malaysian students, alumni and/or staff of the Texas A&M University branch. Malaysians outside of the TAMU branch are not qualified to be in this membership category.
- Malaysians residing in the United States of America (USA): Members of this category include any Malaysians that are not in membership category (1) but are residing in the United States of America. Members include, but are not limited to, students, workers, volunteer workers, politicians and the unemployed.
- Non-Malaysian Texas A&M University MASA members: Members of this category are not of Malaysian citizenship or permanent residence but are, however, students, alumni and/or staff within the Texas A&M University branch. Members of this category may be of any citizenship and/or permanent residence that is not Malaysian. Members may also hold membership and affiliation with other TAMU organizations.
Affiliate Type:
- Any person(s) holding any of the 3 MASA memberships is not considered an affiliate. They are considered MASA members.
- Affiliates may be of any citizenship or permanent residency status.
- Affiliates may be residing within or outside of the United States of America.
- Affiliates may be/may not be within the TAMU branch.
- MASA shall have 2 affiliates categories:
- Non-corporate: Affiliates that are non-corporate or professional in nature fall into this category. Affiliates include, but are not limited to, family members, spouse(s) and friends.
- Corporate: Corporate affiliates are those who plan to conduct solely activities that are corporate or professional based with any of the 3 MASA membership categories.
Obtaining Membership:
- Person(s) wishing to obtain membership must fall into 1 out of the 3 MASA membership categories.
- Members will need to fill in the registration form online or simply contact any of the MASA executive officers to obtain membership.
- There will be no membership dues, screening processes or specified membership intake quota or date.
- Membership applicants do not have to disclose all aspects of their personal information to any of the MASA officers, members and/or affiliates if they do not wish to do so. However, the minimum amount of information that are mandatory to obtain membership are: (i) Full name AND (ii) Email address or phone number Person(s) who do not provide BOTH of the specified information listed above may not obtain membership.
Maintaining Membership/Affiliation:
- Once a person has obtained MASA membership/affiliation status, they are immediately subjected to MASA rules stated in this Constitution and are responsible to understand and comply to them.
- Failure to do so will lead to disciplinary actions and loss in MASA membership/affiliation status. This action may be brought upon at any time such person(s) is discovered not complying with MASA rules. Those who wish to re-instate their membership/affiliation status will need to go through a mandatory screening process.
MASA Membership/ Affiliation Rules and Responsibilities:
These rules apply to ALL members/affiliates of MASA. No exceptions shall be made.MASA members/affiliates:
- Must be aware of the rules of this Constitution, state/Federal law and Texas A&M University rules and comply to them.
- Must uphold the image of the association as well as the image of Malaysia.
- Must be responsible of their tasks, actions and respective positions (if any)
- Should be as active in MASA as possible. Pro-longed inactivity in MASA may lead to loss in membership.
Rights of Members/ Affiliates:
MASA members and affiliates have the right to:
- Forward suggestions, opinions, votes as well as participate in MASA meetings/activities.
- Run for an election and hold an officer position in the MASA.
- Refuse releasing aspects of their personal information to MASA or the public.
- Right to submit termination proposal for membership.
- Change their membership/affiliation status to another status in MASA.
- Review this Constitution and its amendments at any time.
- Report misconduct of any other MASA members and affiliates.
