Fall 2007 Welcome Dinner

The dinner served to welcome returning and new Malaysian students to Texas A&M University (TAMU). The students had the opportunity to interact with each other. New students asked questions pertaining to life in College Station and requested for assistance with move-in, etc. The dinner concluded with games and snacks at the residence of the MASA president (Wee Wen Leow).

Halloween Party Schotzi’s, October 2007

MASA members attended the Halloween party organized by the Columbian Student Association at TAMU. Costumes were worn by all MASA members – witch outfits, mad scientist and vampires to name a few. South American music was mainly played throughout the night. MASA members experienced to salsa dance for the first time (with the assistance of the Columbian students) An eventful party was complimented by late supper at McDonald’s. 
 

Hari Raya Dinner TheTradition at Northgate, September 2007

For Hari Raya, the Malaysian students helped each other to prepare home made Malaysian food. Some of the dishes served were nasi impit, roti jala and bubur cha cha. The dinner was held at the Tradition at Northgate. The Malays were dressed in baju melayu and baju kurung while the remaining students were semi-formally dressed. The students mingled and played game throughout the night. 

Spring 2008 Welcome Dinner Fredriko’s,January 2008

Like the previous year, the Spring 2008 dinner welcomed new and returning Malaysian students for the semester. The dinner was held at Fredriko’s Mexican Restaurant. After dinner, the students proceeded to College Main Apartments (where some of the Malaysians resided) to play a game of Cranium. Later on, some of the students proceeded to bowling or watching a movie at the local theatre.  

International Buffer (i-Buffet)March 2008 

I-Buffet is an event hosted by TAMU where international student organizations can showcase their home country’s delicacies, costumes and tradition. MASA participated by preparing several Malaysian dishes, an informational booth and poster, a traditional dance and wearing Malaysian costumes. The dishes chosen were bubur cha cha, pasembur and satay. A rehearsal cooking session was held at the residence of Jing Voon Gan (MASA member) and a poster was made at the residence of Nur Ain Lockman (MASA Treasurer). MASA members had different responsibilities but all came together to make the night an eventful one. (As a closing note: MASA was a best main dish nominee for the I-Buffet)
